July 05 Dynasties; an entry from HRH Treasure's journalIt has been another weary day. As usual there were squabbles to preside over; whose mouse was this, was the Acorn Union forming a chapter up here? If so, were the appropriate soldiers available to repel that force?
In addition to my duties, We had, about a year ago, assumed the regency for the Fiefdom of West Allis, under the rule of the Queen Bea. When the Queen was called into retirement, she did not have an heir. We agreed to manage the Feifdom until she has adopted the heir apparent. The Queen was always slow to act, so finding the heir has also fallen on Us.
In addition, after the Great Nightmare, We have not been able to have kittens, either, and need an heir to continue Our throne should needs arise. It is for this reason that all yardcats and other feline denizens of the Capitol Drive Realm are to bring kittens for inspection by the Prime Minister. It to be hoped that a worthy successor for one or both thrones will be found.
It has occurred to Us that perhaps we will need to look further afield. This is an additional, classified, duty of Our Royal Scout and Ambassador, Ringo. Only to him would We entrust such a task.
That is the reason for My insistance that the sojourn to treaty with Lady Scamper be made post haste and that We did everything possible to establish good relations with the Queen Miss Katt. It is hoped that this worthy representative of the equine species may offer sage advice and, perhaps, nominate a candidate worthy of consideration--and that Queen Miss Katt (most ably represented by the Agent Blackjack) may be of assistance as well.
Royal Runners have been sent to Utah bearing gifts of marsh hay for Lady Scamper in order to determine the most propitious date for our conferences. A jar of 100 deliicately pickled vole tails has been sent to Queen Miss Katt in gratitude for the services of Agent Blackjack in this most important of missions.
The crown is heavy at times. A Royal ProclamationHear Ye! Hear Ye!
Let it be known to all that
HRH Princess Treasure of Capitol Drive
offers her deepest condolences to
Citizen Regina
upon the loss of her kittens, most especially,
TIGER.
Tiger fought a most valiant fight to survive,
such fight to be recorded in the
Royal History.
Let Tiger's life be
an example to us all. RemindersMy downstairs neighbors' cat, Regina (Re GEE na--g as in get) has been carrying her first litter. She's a tiny little thing and we've all been watching her with baited breath. Last week, Sunday, she delvered two kittens, who could not breathe, even with assistance. E. and I researhed on the internet and in a bookstore and decided perhaps she had spontaneously aborted two because they were not viable or that R. had uterine exhaustion and would finish delivery later.
On Wednesday, she had another two, one of which could not breathe either. But it seemed the other was fine and they decided to call it Tiger, saying it looked like one of the yardcats that was also a tabby. We agreed I could see the baby sometime.
I got home Friday about 10 and they said it wasn't doing too well; wasn't nearly as active. I went in to see and and when I picked it up, it was cool to the touch. I nestled it on my, umhm, chest to warm it up. They had realized that day that the baby was not eating; either it couldn't suck or R. didn't have any milk. Maybe both.
They had cat milk and a special bottle. i tried feeding it and it slowly warmed up and started to move around. It was so tiny! If I went more than a minute or two, it would mew and wave its' little paws. It seemed to be getting stronger. We put it back in the bed with the mama, who stayed with it a short time and then had to leave to take care of some business. I reached down for it a few minutes later and it was again cool. I repeated the cuddling and feeding. It seemed to get even stronger, waving even more emphatically and mewing louder. We were all so happy! Even the husband, this big, (sometimes gruff) guy was excited.
After about an hour or more, we agreed what they needed to do through the night; they took mama and kitten into the bedroom and had a hot pad on low covered with some clothes to keep the baby warm even if the mother needed to move away. We talked about trying to feed it at least every hour. Later, about an hour and a half later, E. called to say the kitten had died.
It may have been premature; it may not have had enough to eat those first couple of days since it looks as if Regina's milk didn't let down. I knew that a cooling body temp wasn't good. But it struggled so hard! It really seemed to have a will to live that was awesome to see in such a tiny, weak little creature.
When I thought about it the next day, I was again struck by it's fight to live. It hit me, if a small little creature like Tiger had such a will to live, what does that teach us about the preciousness of life? How much should we struggle to live? And when do we stop? June 28 Ringo reports on rigorous trainingSo neora thinks I need training before going to Utah. She forgets, I've scouted downtown and the Audubon Sanctuary. Plus, we met 'cuz i imigrated from the forest to the city to pursue my career as an acrobat.
She decided we needed a training trip. OK, i sez, a bit o' prep couldn't hurt. So she took me to that moraine place she always goes to.
She decided i needed to know how to cross water:
We talked about using bridges and stowing away on boats. She also said that sometimes a waterbird might give me a ride. She says this river and lake are nothing compared to some rivers and seas i will see on the trip. Hmmmm.... We also talked about the rout i has to take. she says it's so long, it's like going to the moon. Now really, do i looks like i was borned yesterday? Certainly wise ole great-unc kipper would have told me about this if it were true! She said one good way is to follow a traintrack, as long as i don't gets runned over. She showed me a traintrack. She sez that these big things called trains run on them like a car drives on the road. If i sees one moving, i havta jump off the track. But, if it's stopped, that's another place i can stow away. PM neora forgettin her position. She's making this trip into a big deal. Plan was to spy on the hosses to see if we should treaty with dem. Now she's helping princess to write a treaty. She says I have to take my uniform and medals. She's so wound up she wants agent blakjak from Queen misscats realm to go wih me and she wants me to take the calvary. Doh! But I got bck at her. She wuz opening the nuts, so i bumped her hand. The nutz went everywhere! Then I decided to take a nap.

The royal scout and diplomat Ringo has been offered the opportunity to visit the territory of Utah currently managed by Sir George and Lady Scamper. Due to the ancient and sacred relationship between our species, I have authorize this reconnaisance and meeting to ensure continued good relations.
HRH Treasure and her Royal Scout and Diplomat Ringo would also be most welcome in the Realm of Queen Miss Catt should duties and area ever lend itself to such. Much ado and celebration would ensue on such an auspicious and bright visit.

Hi Neora,
Just came by and enjoyed your latest photos and posts. Hope all is well there with you. Are the large birds in the photos some kind of crane?
It's is now seriously winter and bitterly cold but I'm coping...I broke a bone in my wrist last week so can't drive for the next 4-6 weeks and am relying on public transport. So now after all the years of drought, it's suddenly raining when I can't drive ...someone should have told me all I had to do was to break my wrist! (I'm being a little flippant...it's raining where I am but not where the water catchments are unfortunately!)
Take care,
Kerrie

Thanks for thinking of me, Neora. All the major fires are now under control as of the last two days, and the weather has finally cooled down and we have even had some rain (I'd almost forgotten what that was!) It is now officially Autumn and it is lovely and cool. I'm off to the Port Fairy Folk Festival for the long weekend and looking forward to it.
Hope all is going well there with you; have a lovely weekend!

Neora, you make me LAUGH. I don't know what the ladybugs were doing, I can only imagine. I was so tired that night, so I put up some ladybug photos because they seemed like a happy bug. I've replaced them for some true sun pictures, but not because of anything the ladybugs were doing, hee hee hee .....
